People’s poet Nund, popularly known Sheikhul Alam or Sheikh Noor-ud Din Wali is one of the most original and profound poets of Kashmir. He wrote in the common speech of the time that is deeply rooted in the social, economic, cultural and spiritual life of the 14th-15th century Kashmir. Translating Nund entails being faithful to all the habits of the speakers of using their language resources in all ever-changing linguistic situations rather than any frigid kind of diction dictated by any particular system of thought.
