Lal Dyad ( 14th century), the founder of known and written Kashmiri literature, is one of the most popular and revered poets of Kashmir. Her verses, commonly known as vaakh , have been widely translated into various languages of the world. In view of the perfection of her style and expression, her poetry seems to be the consummation of a long tradition of aphoristic and intellectual poetry in the Kashmiri language rather the beginning of a new tradition. Many of her verses are Kashmiri rendition of Shiva Sutras in Sanskrit.
